It's your choice, but servers are designed to be run 24/7. Keep in mind switching back and forth between the server and the router could be the cause you issues.

Also browsers tend to retain cookies for sites, so that could be a factor.

You have to renew the DHCP lease for clients when switching. Making the fixed IP the same on router and HDA just confuses the client and will likely cause issues.

Recommend you try using the HDA only (router DHCP off) and restart your network to see if the problem persists.

Ok, will try running it for 24hours straight and see if the issue resolves. I am planning to run it 24/7 once plex server is up and running but I am having trouble getting it going and so saw it as a waste of power with it just sitting idle.

I don't use fixed IPs with the router running, I just have them assigned automatically and changed the lease settings to match Amahi (handing out IPs from 100-254). I always have to renew in order to have internet access when I switch, and have cleared cookies and browser cache multiple times.

That's a good practice so should limit any issues.

Wonder if there is a firewall or something else that is cause the problem.

when I type home.net into the address bar it brings up the internet site home.net.

I presume your issue is when you try to access apps, correct? That would be the only time the domain home.net would be used.
