All drives connected and apparently pooling correctly. Thanks!
One last thing. The original test file (which went missing in OS X Finder but was still apparently on server disk somewhere) is now nowhere to be found on either. When it was uploaded, it used space in / and /var/tmp. I still have lots of GB left on those drives, and with greyhole pooling correctly I'm not too worried about it, but is a lost file anything to be concerned about?
SOLVED: Multiple drives cause partition conflict + pooling not working

Probably not a big deal.
I would check the Greyhole attic which is where deleted files are kept.
Since all appears to be ok now, I will close this as resolved.
