CLOSED: Harddisk temperature

Postby maartenpelgrim » Wed Oct 14, 2015 12:47 am

Hi all,

I've set up a mac mini (2009) as an Amahi server. The harddisk is a Hitachi HTS543232L9SA02. Now according to the 'disk' section in the dashboard its temperature is 50 degrees C. By doing a quick search on the internet I've learned that this is a rather high temperature.

The question: is it safe to have a harddisk run at that temperature?

For now there's not much on it yet, just some music, so the data risks in that sense are low. But how big is the risk of disk failure?

Many thanks in advance!

Your best bet is to check the tolerance for the drive on the vendor's web site.

Dear Bigfoot,

Thx again! I'm starting to feel a bit of shame for asking these kind of things....

Anyway, thank a million!
