I am unclear as to how to wire up a home network for Amahi. Does my router still do anything if I have Amahi as my DHCP server, or is Amahi taking over all the functions of my router? Is it better/more secure to have a router in between the Amahi server and the internet, or should I put router, Amahi, clients PCs all attached to a network switch.
This is what I was thinking to do:
Will this work/is there a better way I could do it?
This will be my first home server, so I want to make sure I know how I am going to set it up before I go spending money on a server build, switches etc.
Anyone care to advise?

My setup looks exactly like yours and works fine. You want to keep some sort of router/firewall between your network and the internet. You'll want to turn off DNS and DHCP in your router though if you use Amahi.

Re: Wiring plan for network, cable modem, DHCP
Hey, thanks!
My plan was to count on the firewall in my router to protect the local network (as it does now). Part of what's hanging me up about Amahi is not understanding exactly what all the implications are of shifting DHCP handling from my router to an Amahi box. I understand that it means that I will not be able to use the internet from any computer if the Amahi server is not working (at least not without reconfiguring my router to handle DHCP). I am less clear on how much of the router's security functions depend on it managing DHCP. Can my router be between the internet and then entire network, including the Amhi DHCP/file server, and still do all its jobs other than DHCP management?
