Amahi Static IP being overridden by Wireless Router DHCP IP Please Help!

Postby Nord » Sat Sep 19, 2015 5:49 pm

Hello All,

I'm new to Amahi and am having some trouble with Amahi 8. I have gotten it installed without issue, but I noticed that I can't get any apps to display. The HDA just says "no apps available at this time". I started investigating potential causes and the only issue that I can find is that when pinging hda the IP isn't 192.168.1.10 like it should be, it seems to be taking an assigned IP from my wireless router. I have disabled DHCP on my HDA, as I have IPTV, so my ISP's provided router has to handle DHCP for my television to work. Any idea if this IP issue could be the reason I can't add apps? Also, any ideas on how to get the IP issue sorted out? I have various other computers running with static IP's that are never overridden by the routers DHCP, so this seems pretty weird.

Any help would be appreciated, I'm about ready to start over from the beginning, but thought I would test the waters with the expert community first.

Check out the Amahi FAQ. There are pitfalls not using the HDA for your network DHCP server. Did you try restarting your router?

Thanks for the quick response. I reinstalled and was able to get it working. I wish I could leave DHCP turned on, but my ISP won't allow me to turn it off on the crappy wireless router that they are forcing me to use.

With DHCP turned off is there any way to use OpenVPN on Amahi to access other resources on the network, or will only the HDA be available remotely?

Can you restrict your router to a single IP with the DHCP server? If so, then you could make it only hand out DHCP to the HDA. Let the HDA do the other clients in the network.

Not for sure, but I believe the HDA has to be the DHCP and DNS server for this to work. I could be mistaken.
