OK, I have all of my disks mountewd and Greypool running. Its shows the disks from the HDA.
Now, a couple of questions:
1) I assumed that Greyhole was shared storage, but it only shows the disks individually and does not show the available space I have.
2) Using the "add second HD" wiki, I partitioned each drive separately, but I was wanting to have partitions that spanned the storage pool. For instance on my old Windows box, it was setup in a RAID 5 with 3 2tb drives which gave me 4TB of space. I had one partition which was 3 TB. I'm not sure if I can do that here? Also, again, I have no way to tell exactly how much space I have available after the backup space is used.

Re: Questions from a true newbie
Did you set up Greyhole manually or via the Greyhole UI application?
You can see the shared storage via the Dashboard. Install the Disk Stats application. It will show total storage and pie charts for each partition.1) I assumed that Greyhole was shared storage, but it only shows the disks individually and does not show the available space I have.
If you set up Greyhole properly, then you should have all the disk partitions combined as one storage pool.2) Using the "add second HD" wiki, I partitioned each drive separately, but I was wanting to have partitions that spanned the storage pool.

I did use the Greyhole UI
I went to the link and it only gives the info for Disk Stats, no way to download or install the plugin. I logged into the Amahi website and searched the apps to no avail.

Re: Questions from a true newbie
Search in your available apps on the HDA.
It's there and on the web site. I just searched and found it first time. I believe it's a free app, so should be available on the HDA by default.

Re: Questions from a true newbie
I got the Disk Stats installed, but it only visualizes exactly what I was talking about earlier. It shows the space left for each drive, not for the pool.
Re: Questions from a true newbie
It does reflect the overall space left. Mine reflects Free Space, Used Space, and Total Space. Did you select the Stats section in Disks tab?
This space displays my total storage pool.

Re: Questions from a true newbie
OK, I see that now, but how do I partition across the storage pool and the drives?
Also, it days I have 5.75 TB free. I have it set to make one backup of everything. If I use 1 TB of data will it then show That I have 3.75 TB free?
Thanks again.

Re: Questions from a true newbie
One more thing. When I move my shares, I saw how to do it in one of the wikis, but it says to move it to a specific drive. However, I want my shares in to be located in the pool and not on a specific drive.
Maybe I'm just really confused on how this works. I read the Overview and a number of other articles about Greyhole, but I'm obviously missing a concept.

Re: Questions from a true newbie
OK, I think I figured this out, please tell me if I got this down correctly:
My shares are on /var/hda/files. That is located in the storage pool and not just on one drive. Right?
Also, what I considered partitions on windows is what the share folders are in Amahi?

Re: Questions from a true newbie
No. The /var/hda/files is typically the landing zone where files reside in shares and not part of the storage pool. If using Greyhole, the shares/files will be distributed across the Greyhole enabled drives based on what you set in the Greyhole UI.My shares are on /var/hda/files. That is located in the storage pool and not just on one drive. Right?
When you include a share and set the number of copies in Greyhole, the file is copied to drives in the storage pool (drives external of the OS drive). The original file in the share (/var/hda/files) then becomes a symbolic link to the file on one of the drives in the storage pool.
I know this can all be confusing. Have you read all the documentation on the Greyhole wiki site? It explains how it all works.
No. Shared folders in Amahi are just that, folders that are shared in the network. In Windows, you can have shared folders. Same concept. Basically a folder located on a machine that other machines in the network can access. Also, what I considered partitions on windows is what the share folders are in Amahi?
