Password doesn't work in fedora 19 gnome gui
Hi, i want to copy some files from an external hard drive to an internal hard drive, however it requires the password for my user. I type it in correctly (it works for the amahi dashboard) , i also tried the root password. It shows the error "Sorry, that didn't work. Please try again.". Problems with authentication also occurs when the gui locks, however i just disable the lock screen. Another issue that might be relevant to this, is I cannot add a vpn ( I installed all the packages I needed - pptp).

Not sure I follow here. Amahi 7 on Fedora 19 is headless. Is this a client machine? You mention issues with VPN. We have OpenVPN as an Amahi app.
Need more details to be able to assist.

This is the actual server machine, I installed the gui following these instructions https://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/GUI_In ... Express_CD, are you not meant to install it on Amahi 7, Fedora 19? By VPN I mean an actual consumer one, (pptp,to encrypt my data) on the actual server so that it's internet traffic is secure. When I try to add a vpn by clicking "add" it does nothing.
Re: Password doesn't work in fedora 19 gnome gui
Ok, understand now.
The GUI addition for Fedora 19 does not work well. Your best bet would be to use the Amahi VNC application vs manual install if you must have one. The server is meant to be headless, so we do not recommend installing a full desktop. Is there a reason you need a Desktop on the server? Most things can be done without it.
Secondly, we do not support 3rd party VPN solutions, so you would need to check their web site for assistance. Our OpenVPN application provides the same capability and works with little or no configuration out of the box. Recommend you try the app if you require secure access.

Re: Password doesn't work in fedora 19 gnome gui
I'm using the vnc app via realvnc, so is the gui i installed via the wiki not want i am accesing via vnc?
I just thought a desktop would be easier to copy files from my external hdd, also so I could setup the vpn to encrypt my downloads from sabnzbd

Re: Password doesn't work in fedora 19 gnome gui
Understand you are using the VNC client, but the VNC server part on the HDA could be your issue. Did you install the server portion on the HDA? That's what the VNC application does.
I discourage using the wiki guidance for VNC as it may not be current for Amahi 7 or may not work correctly.
Not sure why you would be worried about making the download connection encrypted. Seems like additional overhead that is problematic. I use SABnzbd with my normal connection and have NEVER had any issues.
EDIT: BTW, it's not hard to copy files from an external drive to the HDA. That can be done via your client or command line from the HDA. It's a lot of overhead to add for just copying files in my opinion.

I don't know how to copy files from my external hdd to an internal hdd via the fedora command line. I installed midnight commander but don't know how I would utilize it.
Re: Password doesn't work in fedora 19 gnome gui
Copying files is not too bad. The syntax is:
You can also find syntax help on the internet as well.
Code: Select all
cp /drive1/path /drive2/path
