Remote start

Postby wndg » Tue Jul 01, 2014 12:15 pm

I wonder if this is possible?

For a while I was using the HDA just as remote file server and that what I'd like to do again (I just moved). However 2 things bothered me that I'm wondering if I can avoid.

Firstly, I don't want to have to route all internet traffic through the computer.

Secondly, which has to do with the first, I'd like to keep it either turned off or in a sleeping state, that can be turned on remotely, let me get my files, then turned off remotely.

Is this possible?

There was an app a few years ago that someone built to put the HDA in low power mode. Unfortunately, they have not updated it to work with Ubuntu or Fedora 19.

Your only recourse here is to research on the internet and manually configure the HDA to be used in this fashion. Sorry, but this is not something we support or have the resources to provide assistance.

If you come up with something that works, please share it with the community. We could add it to the wiki to help others with the same desires as yours.

couldn't you send it a wake on lan magic packet to turn on, then use a VPN app to get what you need, then shut it down?

I have the amahi server backing up my primary server. The primary server sends a WOL packet to turn on the amahi rig right before backups start. I have to manually shut it down though.
