File Permissions

I have been able to access text document that was stored in my hda but when i try to open a video file it tells me that i do not have permission to open the file. I am running my hda from Ubuntu 12.04 LTE. I would love any help thanks.

Check the file permissions and file ownership via command line.

They should be 1st admin user:users and 775. If my instructions aren't detailed enough please let me know.
