That concerns me that the log file is not present. Indicates that the install did not successfully complete.
There could be a problem with the initial OS install that further complicate this situation. Sorry to say, but your best option may be to reinstall the OS (following http://docs.amahi.org) and then try Amahi install script again.
That was my only option when I had similar behavior. Once I did so, all worked fine.

Re: bash: line 42: /usr/bin/hda-install

I feel so stupid....
I installed it again and it gave me the same result.
Then I redownloaded the rom and saw 2 version with a simular name are available on the same page @ ubuntu.
I tried ubuntu-12.10-server-amd64.iso instead of ubuntu-12.04.1-server-amd64.iso.
Sorry for my stupidity Bigfoot.
Thnx for the replies!
Amahi is up and running!

No need to feel that way. It happens. At least you have the right version now, others will learn from your mistake, and Amahi is successfully installed.

Re: bash: line 42: /usr/bin/hda-install
A remark from my installation, because I got the same error.
I installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
But in my case the reason for the error was that I set the static IP before the amahi install (I felt somehow I had to - don't ask why...).
When I switched back to DHCP, the installation went without problems...

Re: bash: line 42: /usr/bin/hda-install
LOL That's why it's important to follow the instructions at http://docs.amahi.org. IT tells you all you need to do in order to get Amahi installed successfully. If you deviate, failure is likely.
