Newbie questions

I am a real newbie when it comes to home servers. I installed Ubuntu Server 12.04.1 LTS on a PC that is about 5 years old. All of our laptops are running Win 7 Home Premium. None of the laptops can connect to the server. What do I need to do to get all the laptops to be able to store files on the server?

Question #2: Does the server have to be hard-wired to the router or can it connect to a wireless network?

Once I get these questions answered and my issues fixed, I should be good to go. I've read the documentation and help so much I think I'm confusing myself.

Did you turn off your router's DHCP/DNS server? Also did you refresh the client IP address?

Wireless does not work, at least not easily. We only support as indicated in the wiki.

Does the HDA have connectivity ok? (did you work through the Network Troubleshooter: http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Network_troubleshooting)

Make sure you configure your Windows machines to get their DNS from your HDA IP address.
