Hello everyone,
I am absolutely new to Linux and going for the gusto with a headless amahi server based off the ubuntu server (read: crash course in terminal only). I would like to get my cannon MP240 USB printer/scanner to act as a network printer, but am having troubles finding instructions explicit and simple enough for me to follow to install the printer or even find the drivers. I've tried the simple plug and pray model, but have had no luck in the server printer showing up on my client PCs after reboot and no way of knowing if the printer is even seen by the server itself. There are MP240 drivers for linux available for download on the cannon website, but I don't even know how to download them to the ubuntu server (as opposed to my amahi share folders).
So yeah, an explicit rundown of the scripts i need to run to get this to happen would be awesome.
Thanks,
JP

Re: ubuntu 12.04 SERVER + install cannon MP240
Thank you for the reply, however, the wiki says " plug the printer in and make sure it is powered on. Ubuntu should setup it up automatically." This sounds like the behaviour I've seen in ubuntu desktop, but this isn't working on my ubuntu server.
If you have scripts I could use to see if the printer has been automatically set up in ubuntu server, i would gladly try that.

There are no scripts. You may need to look on the internet for guidance.
Might try the Ubuntu PDF printer tutorial in the wiki. It will install CUPS which then may help with adding your printer.

Re: ubuntu 12.04 SERVER + install cannon MP240
Perhaps i'm mis-using the term "scripts". I need to use the terminal to figure out what usb devices are attached and what drivers are being used. I cant imagine that this is impossible from the ubuntu server terminal.
A basic Google search will quickly return this info for gui enabled ubuntu desktop. I don't have this luxury.
Thanks
