HDA won't boot

Postby jpsil » Tue Mar 06, 2012 7:21 pm

My HDA was working before, and now, ever since a power outage, it won't boot. It comes up with a message saying This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU. Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU. I have not made any hardware changes to the system. It is running on ESXi 5. Server has dual Xeon 2.33 GHz quadcores with 4 gb of RAM. Any help would be great! Thanks!

It is likely the power outage has caused some corruption with the file system. I have seen this before and there are advanced procedures needed to correct it. Good idea to have a UPS backup installed on the HDA to prevent such issues.

While I am no expert on repairs, I would imagine you would need to boot your HDA via a Live CD OS (i.e. Ubuntu) and do a disk check/repair on the OS drive. You might find a solution in the Forums, but may need to Google it.

I would not expect a reinstall to be necessary, but it depends on what got corrupted if that is the actual problem. I have seen power outages result in hardware failures as well. I hope that is not true in your case.
