Hello,
I originally installed my server headless with the express CD. After realizing I could Install XBMC on the server I followed the guide on the wiki
http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/XBMC.
Then finding out my graphics card (a wimpy integrated Intel chipset) cant actually handle playing video, I would like to revert back to the headless experience.
I also experience a problem whenever a high load is used on the server, It seems to crash. It seemed that it was getting a swap error (also there is also only max 2gb ram in the machine)I tried remaking the swap partition but it didn't change anything. I have tried setting inittab:3 rather than starting xbmc automatically all the time to preserve memory, but this seems to make it worse because then some web-app services then fail to start. This is why I would like to just reinstall amahi (and upgrade to 16)
I know how to preserve greyhole data upon reinstalls from the wiki, but,
Is there any way to preserve custom web-app settings, should I just copy /var/hda/web-apps/*appname and replace it on the new install? (but first use web interface to create identical app of course)
On an unrelated note,
I always see warnings of "Do not put greyhole on root". I know why and I agree, but I cant actually find a guide to fix this. Is there a way to fix during the reinstall? (setting up the partitions manually and then hda-diskmount on the new partition) Can someone point me in the right direction.

Reinstall/upgrade to fedora 16
Re: Reinstall/upgrade to fedora 16
Hello,
Upgrading to Fedora 16 is not advisable at this time as Amahi is still not stable for that version. Only 32-bit is working and there are apps are not ready either. So you are best to stick with Fedora 14.
As for reinstall, I would recommend you do the Full DVD install as you will experience less problems and that is the most widely supported method. There is no means of backing up web apps, other than the database and some settings possibly. You would have to do it all manually however. On the fresh install, you would still have to install the apps and then incorporate your backup settings/data. A lot of work that requires some Linux experience as we do not support this at the moment.
The point of not putting Greyhole on root is meant as do not make your root partition part of the storage pool. By default it is not, so unless you change it there are no worries. Adding it to the pool could cause the drive to fill up and your HDA will cease to work.
If you use the Fedora 14 Full DVD and follow the instructions on the web site, you should have little or no problems. Hope that helps.

Re: Reinstall/upgrade to fedora 16
Thanks for letting me know,
On an unrelated note, I am in the subsonic beta testers unit, and it seems to currently be giving me a
HTTP ERROR: 404
NOT_FOUND
RequestURI=/
Powered by jetty://
I tried re-installing it, but I am getting the same thing.
then I tried stopping the service and restarting it. , same thing.

Re: Reinstall/upgrade to fedora 16
Recommend you uninstall the app. Then check to ensure the RPM was erased correctly. As root user do:
Then reboot your server and do a reinstall. If that does not clear it up, suggest you file a bug.
Code: Select all
yum erase subsonic

Re: Reinstall/upgrade to fedora 16
Good idea, forgot that sometimes RPMs leave things behind. Often those keep it from reinstalling correctly.
Glad you got it working.
