Help with Using Applications in Amahi - AirPot Express Help!

Postby bennoculus » Mon Oct 03, 2011 11:31 pm

Hey guys,

Just got my server setup this past week and I'm loving it so far... I've pretty much gotten the hang of it. But I am having one issue. Whenever I install an app and then go to the app's URL, it takes me to their weird page. It's definitely not the app. I took a screenshot and am posting it in the post.

This happens on any app that I install.

Here is the screenshot:

It's probably some noob mistake I am making.

Any help or advice for me?
Thanks

Hello,

First of all, welcome aboard.

Do you have your client getting DHCP/DNS from the HDA? If not, then that is most likely the issue. Once you install Amahi, you have to refresh the client's network connection in order to get connected to the HDA.

Also, I presume you are trying to access apps from the dashboard/URL, i.e. http://appname.

Thanks for the reply and the welcome.

I don't think I have my client getting DHCP/DNS from the HDA. Can you explain how I do this?
How to I refresh my client's network connection to get connected to the HDA? By physically restarting my modem/routers (two routers)?
I will now try and reset my modem/routers for the heck of it to see if it makes a difference.
I have rebooted the server many, many times.

And yes, that is how I am trying to access the applications. I go to my dashboard and click the link for the application and it always take my to the page I linked in my original post.

Again, thanks for the help.

EDIT: I have one other question: How come when I type "http://hda" into a web browser on my Mac (Mac OS X 10.6) it doesn't take my to my HDA dashboard?
EDIT 2: Just restarted my modem and routers. Trying now to see if it will fix the applications broken link.
EDIT 3: After restarting my routers and modems for about 5 minutes, I still get broken links to the applications. I am using Apple AirPort routers if that makes a difference.

In Windows from the command prompt, you do ipconfig/release and ipconfig /renew. For Mac, I do not know the command.

AirportExpress is a special case. See the wiki for guidance:

Is this to line to type in to allow my applications to be able to be used? Or is it for allowing me to view the HDA Dashboard in Windows? If it's the latter, I can view the HDA Dashboard on my Windows machines.

I will try it and see what happens.

I actually have two Apple AirPort Extreme's. But, thank you for the link. :)

I will try the lines you gave me and post back with results.
Thanks again.

The two lines I gave you will ensure you are getting DHCP and DNS from the HDA with a Windows client.

Since you have a special router/modem, that may be the cause of all your issues.

You may also find help in the forums. There are a few folks who use that brand and have posted here solutions for certain problems.

I just typed "ipconfig/release" and then I type "ipconfig/renew". I restarted my HDA machine and my Windows machine. I then went into my HDA Dashboard and tried to launch one of my install programs.

It takes me to the exactly page I posted a picture of in my original topic.

Time for me to take a look at the Wiki on the Apple AirPort routers...
EDIT: Just took a look at the Wiki... It says to do the following on the Mac:
1.) Set DHCP Beginning Address and DHCP Ending Address to the same value: the IP address of your HDA
2.) Create a DHCP Reservation (static IP): enter your HDA MAC address and IP address
Maybe I am just an idiot, but can someone explain what this actually means? Those two lines flew RIGHT over my head... Thanks.

Thanks for all your help so far.
Any other help would be GREATLY appreciate and I thank you in advance. :)

Its the fact that your router is still acting as DHCP and DNS server. Once you can switch that off or get around it, things will start working.

If you do http://ipaddressofhda that might get you to the dashboard. Then for the apps, you may need to do the fully qualified name....i.e. http://adminer.home.com or whatever your domain is named.

Could you possibly point me in the right direction to figuring out how to do this? I don't even know where to start looking..
Create a new thread? I've been Google'ing around and couldn't find much :(

What is "http://ipaddressofhda" for? I typed it in my browsers (tried two different ones, Firefox and Opera) and it took me to a blank page. It also took me to a blank page on the Mac, on both browsers I use on Mac (Opera and Safari).

As for the apps, when I click on them (or type them in) from the Dashboard, it loads as "http://app.home.com" in the address bar. Both clicking on the link AND typing it in manually do not work. :(

Thank you, again, for all of your help so far. I greatly appreciate you tolerating my noobishness.

The http://ipaddressofhda is where you would put the ip address of the hda machine. For example, http://192.168.1.11

As for helping with AirportExpress, the best I can do is the wiki. I do not know anything about them. Suggest you use the search function in these forums to find more guidance.

The only other option I can offer is that maybe another user will jump in who owns one of these units.

Sorry I cannot be of more assistance.
