Landing zone is full. Can't do anything.

Postby boulder240 » Wed Sep 28, 2011 3:35 pm

I will try and explain this the best I can as I am not the best with all of this....yet.

I have installed Amahi three times to date and the reason I do is because of this issue every time. I decided before I reinstalled again, I would ask to see if there was an easier way. I have 2tb drives that I am using with Amahi and partitioned one with a 50gb section to act as the landing zone. I do this so that I can use them both with greyhole as opposed to dedicating one whole drive as a landing zone. (I suppose I could buy another drive but I am trying to avoid the extra expense) This is where the problem lies. When trying to fill up amahi with all of my information, I have to be careful not to transfer more then 50gb at a time in order to let greyhole have a chance to disseminate the data. If I don't, the below screen capture is what happens. Although I was being careful this didn't happen, windows was not and while making a backup during the night, this happened.

So my question is how do I clear off the landing zone and make my system usable again? I am open to any ideas. Otherwise I am looking at another re-install this weekend. :-( Thanks for the help.

You could just use one of your 2 TB HDDs as a landing zone and have it be part of your greyhole storage pool. That's what I've done; my primary 1.5 TB HDD is split into:

- Page/Swap Partition (4 GiB)
- Root (10 GiB)
- Home (20 GiB)
- Greyhole Landing Zone (1.3 TiB)

where the 1.3 TiB partition is also part of the storage pool.

To force greyhole to rebalance your data, leaving more free space on the landing zone partition, try greyhole --balance as root.

So you have partitioned your drive four ways and allocated each part of amahi to do it? Did you set that up while going through the install? Did you use the Express CD for installation. I am interested in finding out exactly how you have it set up.

That is something I haven't tried yet. I will most certainly give it a whirl when I get home. Most commands seem to not return anything however. It says that the mysequel database can not be reached. Thanks for the ideas.

I didn't do anything special during setup. I think greyhole uses /var/hda/files as the landing zone by default and if you follow the detailed Amahi install instructions (here) you'll have /var/hda/files as its own partition. So, you can just add /var/hda/files to the storage pool like this:
Greyhole LZ in SP.png
Greyhole LZ in SP.png (31.68 KiB) Viewed 3684 times
By the way, you probably want to do a greyhole --fsck first to force greyhole to take files from the landing zone and distribute them in the storage pool. Then do the greyhole --balance afterwards. Of course with my setup, I never need greyhole --fsck. ;)

That is where the problem lies. I can't do a greyhole --fsck. The server is locked up. I have tried doing that, and restarting and such to no avail.

[root@localhost ~]# tail /var/log/greyhole.log
Sep 29 17:16:34 4 balance: PHP Warning [2]: mysql_connect(): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (111) in /usr/bin/greyhole on line 516
Sep 29 17:16:34 2 balance: Can't connect to mysql database.

This is the error I can't seem to get around. Any ideas anyone?
