Re: best hdd set up for amahi ?
A good strategy is to put the OS on a small drive and locate /var/hda/files on a different drive(s). This allows the OS to be updated or re-installed without messing with your data. You could take your data drive(s) and put them into a new machine quite easily if you wanted to upgrade/replace your system. You only need 10-20 GB for the OS (my install only uses abut 4GB), so use the smallest one for that.
A lot of people use greyhole to organize and manage their data drives successfully. I can't speak to that since I haven't tried that. You should be able to use as many drives as you can physically connect for your greyhole array.
My approach was to set my data drives as a RAID 1 array and use the Logical Volume Manager to handle the array. It is pretty easy to set up. So my system consists of a small 40GB drive for the OS and two 500GB drives as the RAID 1 array for /var/hda/files.

Re: best hdd set up for amahi ?
How would you set up the OS to be on one small drive and the main shares on another? I am having a problem and going to have to most likely start all over. This information would be helpful.
Re: best hdd set up for amahi ?
Attach both of your drives and install the system. During the OS installation select custom drive partitioning. Select your small drive (probably /dev/sda) and specify that as your 'root' or '/' drive. Set it up with ext4 format. Select your second (large) drive (probably /dev/sdb) and set its path to '/var/hda/files'. Again, format it as ext4. This should put all of your shares on the large drive.
As an alternative (but more complex) method would be to install the OS and Amahi software while only the small drive is connected. Later, you turn off the machine and attach your second drive. Start up the system and change the configuration so that your new drive gets mounted in /var/hda/files.

I appreciate it! Thanks!!
Re: best hdd set up for amahi ?
I use Greyhole on mine. I've got a 120gb drive as my OS / Landing Zone. I installed Fedora and setup amahi with only this drive connected.
THEN, once it was all running, added my 2x2tb and 1x1.5tb drives, adding them to greyhole.
The landing zone can cause issues when loading your server with data; took me a while, limiting the speed of the copy so that the landing zone doesn't fill up.
