New user for each pc connecting to share?

Postby jcarp » Mon Sep 19, 2011 6:44 pm

Do I need to create a new user in amahi for each remote pc that will be accessing the shares? For example, do I need a user "desktop" for a desktop pc that will be using them as well as a "media" user for a media pc that will access them at the same time? I am not sure I am connecting properly using the same login (for the one admin amahi acct I have) on multiple pcs. On occasion I get an error from windows indicating that I can't use the same credentials to log in from multiple pcs.

No, the idea is that each __person__ that you expect to use your server will have a separate username/password. This keeps each users private data separate from anyone else.

So you can log into your hda share(s) from any computer on your network using your username and password.

So you don't need a new user for each machine, just each person.

I don't know why you saw that windows error.

Thanks for the information. I think my problem may be related to this:

Update: re: "Error 1219". This is a client-side error -- Windows only allows you to connect to a server as one user at a time. (See Microsoft documentation at KB938120.) This means the Windows machine has already connected as a different user, and so your attempts to connect again, as the correct user, are failing.

I'll have to try after I get home from work and see what may be going on, I did do a password change recently so it seems likely that is the culprit.
