BOINC on Amahi

Postby dcdc » Fri Apr 29, 2011 5:46 am

Hi All

I seem to be in the same boat as many people - I was going to use some unused/ebay hardware that I have to build a WHS box, making use of a few hard drives but the demise of drive extender has put me off. The appeal of WHS is the simplicity, so Amahi seems to be a good alternative with some serious plus points over WHS in places.

One of my prerequisites is that the server will be able to run BOINC - does anyone know any reason why the linux client wouldn't work on Amahi?

thanks,
Danny

A quick glance through the boinc docs makes it sound like it should not be a problem.

Give it a try!

I would suggest getting your server running fully first before installing boinc. That will make it easier to isolate problems.

ok, thanks radioz - I'll give it a go once I've got a build out of the way that frees up some needed parts.

Finally got the parts I needed freed up so Amahi is up and running, and the BOINC install was easy enough - thanks!

How easy would it be to build an app to automate the install process for BOINC? Amahi seems like a perfect place for it - loads of computers with largely idle CPUs that could be put to good use for those interested in helping out the likes of the bakerlab (rosetta@home)...

It may be possible to package this. If you could document the steps in the wiki, I would be glad to try and make it a one-click install.
