Amahi as a complete distro?

Postby ajacobs » Thu Jul 30, 2009 7:57 am

Only just installed Amahi and done some basic config.
I really like it and how modular it is. Hope you continue to improve it and do well from it.
One niggle is that Fedora needs to be installed first.
This project is a great candidate for a fedora re-spin (http://tinyurl.com/63u544).
Cut out all the packages that aren't needed or make certain ones optional.
What do you think? How about it?

This is being looked into and is an option.

A couple of problems, Amahi is in the "Beta" stages and is still under development, so things change frequently.

Another problem is bandwidth, since Amahi requires DVD ISO install, those are about 4gb a piece, so thats 4gb of bandwidth per download. Yes there are mirrors, but people are not going to host it willy nilly, especially right after we release it.

So this will be better when Amahi gets out of the Beta stage and we are Well known and have time to talk to the mirroring sites we all love.

It saves many users a lot of hassles!

BK:
there be torrents for that ;)
my torrent client runs like.. 24/7, im sure there are others who are also willing to torrent an Amahi distro ;)
And even if bandwith is a problem, do you know of a way to make such a distro?
personally, i'd like to build one for myself then.

You cannot rely on torrents for this sort of thing. You have to have the alternative.

For reasons, many people do not use torrents, know anything about them, or are scared of them. Also, you cant rely on it for the reason of seeding, yes there will be some of us seeding but you can rely on enough people to seed to keep this in affect.

Yes torrents is a wonderful idea, but you HAVE to have the alternative or you will miss out on alot of users.
