serious product suggestion

Postby supermorph » Tue Jan 07, 2014 1:12 pm

hi, i have a website, it operates things like joomla

what i seriously think would make things much better would be instead of http://product http://product2 http://product3 etc etc
i would seriously suggest making things http://server/product
(i do understand port number issues, but an actual web-server online would automagically sort this out, so i dont think the problem is too difficult0
it winds me up having to browse things the way things are, as i am used to how a linux webserver is haha

if you know of a workaround to change this i would be MOST grateful. :-)

seperate item of suggestion
=====================
i also wanted to point out something about the android sync app (installed it 30 mins ago) doesnt allow page moving ie finger dragging or browsing, it only allows up and down, no pinch to zoom etc, so i find it shows the logon off to the right hand side,

i dont know where to put this as i am new to the application, which seems to me a frontend for/to open/opening amahi.org?

can i suggest mabye adding a menu into the application itself to logon to the server directly with users and passwords? (would be easier i think)

I believe that was already addressed, but Amahi's infrastructure does now allow for that method. This is by design. The way it is now if setup properly reflects http://product.domain.com for most apps. It should not be a problem for most users, just a different way to access apps. Most web servers that are exposed outside the network follow this pattern.

Amahi is not a typical web server, so there will be subtle differences. It is an add on for a Linux OS. You can use a dynamic DNS service and resolve applications as http://product.domain.com outside your local network as well. There is guidance in the wiki for that procedure.

One last thing. We'd appreciate if you have suggestions that you open an issue in our bug tracker at https://bugs.amahi.org. This allows us to review, track, and prioritize the work.

We are aware of the issues with the Android sync app and are working them. Unfortunately it is difficult to find a good Android developer to assist us. Our volunteer team is small and does not have the skills to tackle this one on our own. Please open an issue in the bug tracker for this one as well.

thanks for getting back in touch, i was having a difficult time trying to find where to place the suggestion,
as some things i couldnt see on the area you suggested,

i have an idea, its not quite a suggestion, but theres a lot of people on the xda-developers website, they do amazing stuff to android phones, some create custom software, mabye it could be worth looking into, im there all the time trying to get fancy things done, and having to research stuff etc,

mabye someone on your team could ask for help in that place, i could see it being useful to your company :-p

hope i could help you back with that lol
*and to think i was the one asking for help first haha*

kind regards,
dez ainsworth / supermorph

edit: will open a tracker soon my friend

Thanks for the suggestion. We are working the Android app now through the GOSC project. Hope to have the app fixed in the next few months and working as originally intended.
