CLOSED: Plex Media Server

Postby inquam » Tue Jul 19, 2011 7:22 am

Since Plex Media Server has now been released for Linux it would make an ideal candidate to be integrated with Amahi. Ubuntu and Gentoo releases exist today I think and it's early releases. But it would replace a lot of other apps on the server and bring functionality that would really raise the level of Amahi as a whole.

I am sure it would be a nice addition if it could be integrated. I did not see anything that would be possible with Fedora 14 and Amahi on their website though.

If you know of something, please let us know. We can take a look and see if it is doable.

I have it running on my HDA now and will package it as soon as I can.

Awesome. If you need any assistance, please let me know. You could document it in the wiki as well. Sometimes that makes it easier for packaging at a later time.

Saw the emails come though on it last week. Is it working well with Amahi?

I have several XBMC and Boxee clients running that connects through SMB. I also have DLNA running if I want to access some data through a DLNA capable unit (like XBOX360 or similar). I then have Plex Media Server it running along side these and they handle sharing all of my media to my LG Smart TV, Plex on iPod and Plex on Android. I works great alongside all the other media sharing options and serves all of my clients nicely.

Before this I had to mount the shares using cifs on my Android devices and play videos using Rockplayer. This is much more streamlined with the use of Plex Media Server.

You should now be able to download Plex Media Server on your Applications tab in your Amahi ;)
