Offsite backup.

A simple (GUI-driven) mechanism for automatic backups of shares would be useful, either onto an external drive or via FTP / SFTP etc. You could even include gmailfs for a free (if slightly hacky seeming) online storage solution. Perhaps Amahi could cut a deal with ADrive or similar for users to get discounted integrated access? (just a thought...)

Edit:

Just had a quick read about fwbackups etc... seems interesting but I think its something that would be really nice to have integrated into the rest of Amahi!

how about tying this in with something like dropbox ?
Ive used dropbox since day one and it works with Linux too, so a dropbox app for backups would be great , as in the early days some people struggled to get it working on the linux boxes

Keep up the fantastic work guys :) been running 7 months without a hitch here :)well apart from a power cut but apart from that 24/7

spot on!

we talked to the founders of dropbox in person a bit ago.

the are insterested generally, however:

- amahi is too small
- they have other priorities (which kind of connects to the above)

however, we could implement our own dropbox app, basically :)

base free, premium for more space or whatnot.

Ah dropbox started off small too though :) but yep Id pay for a dropbox style app on Amahi, Id pay for Amahi for that matter :)

@cpg

The dropbox app sounds promising. I would pay monthly for off-site server backups.

@simonp

Well the good thing is, Amahi will always be open source, but certain features (in the future) might cost money.

But as a whole, you will always set that home server up for free.

You pay for hardware of course :D

could have sworn I replied to this earlier :)
yes I would happily pay money for extra features etc on top of the base server install, the support from the coders has been fantastic, so its only fair
