Hello,

I know this, or something like this, has come up before but I would like to suggest that the DNS forwarders can be changed by an end user through the dashboard. The openDNS servers (I believe) which are used now are really unreliable and slow; I get much better performance and less trouble if I use the DNS servers from my provider. Right now I don't now where to put them to make the change stick. Modifying 'named.conf' only works for a short time until it gets overwritten. Now I've changed the entries in the mySQL database and restarted the server but don't know if this wil be permanent.

Anyway, if Amahi wants to 'take over' my network DNS/DHCP, configuration of these should really be much easier. Almost any (cheap) hardware router does a much better job here.

I would suggest adding these settings to the dashboard > setup > settings > servers > DNS server entry, something like the settings for a share. If a user leaves these empty, use the default forwarders, else use the one this page.

/usr/bin/hda-change-dns

Do you remember the bug/feature number?. I searched but couldn't find it. No point in creating an identical one.

I thought it was buried in 337, but I see it is not. I need to rewrite 337 anyway...

Found it. Looked through the script and as far as I can tell it replaces the default forwarders in the mySQL database with the ones supplied. I already did that with phpMyAdmin. I know, I shouldn't, but I did it anyway (not knowing a script like this exsisted). Nothing blew up so far, so I think I'm good...

Yeah, that is the way I use to have to do it....
