Anti-Virus

Postby relrobber » Thu Jan 22, 2009 3:49 pm

one thing that Amahi is missing (unless i've just missed it) is AV out of the box. maybe use clamav, and have an option to either set it as an on-access scanner for the Samba shares or to scan once a day? it would definately be faster to scan the shares locally, rather than using a client over the network.

I think there are pros and cons to that. First it would slow down the server and also if you already have anti virus software on your PCs then any backups on amahi should be clean of virus. So even if amahi came with it, I would never use it.

yeah, it should be optional. :)

i could see how some people would want to store their software for PCs in shares in the HDA (i know i do), or even installed apps in shares in their HDA.

in the new world of online apps, it should work (optionally) out of the box.

hmm, since clam-av is easy to install using yum, a tutorial or an HDA-app (with the proper config files and flags) would be the easiest means to do it. I don't know how the HDA-apps are written so maybe I'm talking out of my &*^ wrt the HDA-app, but a tutorial should be no problem...

that is correct. it should be fairly easy.

after we have webapp support we will have apps-as-rpms support. :)
