Guitar tabs

Postby mciv » Thu May 28, 2009 11:17 am

I've been searching for an open source guitar tab database and can't find one so I thought I'd ask in this forum. Currently I have most tabs printed out but it's not pretty. I'd like to have a web based system that lets me search and then print tabs if I choose to. I know there are many web sites that have thousands of tabs and I use them to download tabs . . . I just don't trust that they will stay viable indefinitely due to legal restrictions. I'd like to archive tabs locally for my use and my HDA seems the perfect place to keep them.

Not being a programmer I hesitate to start from scratch but maybe some of you out there would like to see the same app and we can work together. If anyone is using something already and knows of something that might work please let me know. If anyone wants to build an app also let me know because I'm sure I can help in some regard.

You can use wget to mirror the entire site locally on your disk.

It's what I've done with a Lego site that has almost all building plans/booklets online. I don't trust it to stay up forever as well...

The downside to that is that there are many different sites and they don't all have the same tabs so I like to pick and choose. It would also be nice to be able to create different categories and organize things the way I want them.
