Reboot Never Gets to Login Screen

My Amahi server stopped responding today, so I rebooted. It goes through all the usual steps without a hitch, but when it gets to where the login screen would normally appear, it seems to go into an endless loop. The cursor continues to orbit, and every 15 seconds or so the screen seems to turn off and turn back on. Has anyone seen this behavior before?

I'm running Amahi with Fedora 9 on an old AMD-K6. I've done a lot of playing with everything I can get my hands on, so I may have trashed something, but it's been running great up til now. I was not doing anything at the time the problem occurred. I'm very interested in hearing anyone's thoughts on the subject, but if there's no clear solution I'm fully prepared to start over with a fresh install of Amahi 5 on Fedora 12 to see what trouble I can get into there.

Thanks to all for making this a great forum!

WOW, Fedora 9 ... must have been working great for well over a year! :)

it does sound like either a graphics driver issue (X trying to restart over and over) or a hardware issue.

yeah, you need to update to Amahi 5 :-)

To restart X (it might be waiting for something to finish) press Ctrl+Alt+Backspace
If that doesn't work you can always go to another tty by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 (or F2, F3 etc.) and login. You can then kill the x processess (gdm most likely). check your /etc/init.d directory for anything X related, you can also stop/restart services from there
