Hey guys,

What was the reason towards going for Fedora over Ubuntu LTS?

With the longer release cycles, surely Ubuntu would be a more apt server OS over one that has a release cycle every ~6 months?

Thanks!

This has come up many times.

Many reasons.

We don't have any Ubuntu developers.

Our code base would require extensive modification.

If you search the forums, you will probably find more discussion.

We could like to try CentOS one day which would provide the stability.

CentOS would be absolutely fantastic (and certainly as someone who has used Fedora for about a decade with Amahi, a preferred route)!

Currently I'm unsure how to proceed, as I love Amahi, but I'm starting to dislike the release cycles of Fedora. I installed 9 months ago, and now just had an issue with Radarr where tmdb disabled TLS 1.0, which required an update to mono, and the only path is now to reinstall the entire OS just to fix issues with a single package as the upgrade seems to have failed.

Always a good idea to have a back up. Then when things go south, you can restore. That's an IT best practice :)

Apps should not drive the OS, but they often do. In your case, a single app is the cause of your problem. Had you not needed to upgrade for it, you would still have a working system. Seems like Mono has caused issues with Amahi in the past. I avoid apps that use it.

I recommend to users who have the skills, run a VM with an OS that best supports these special apps. Then you have a separate system for the app and can snapshot the instance as well.

I used to when I was using SABnzbd Plus and SickBeard. Was so much better and didn't mess with my HDA. I don't use many apps with Amahi, mostly for the other functions.

Can we mark this topic closed?

We certainly can mark the topic closed! Hopefully the drive to move to centOS will occur at some point in the near future!
