CLOSED: App Updates

Postby lenogris » Wed Mar 22, 2017 5:40 am

Just upgraded from Amahi 7 to 9. Everything seems to be ironed out, but my apps are not updating to the latest versions. From what I read its automatic. How long does it take for them to update, and is there a way to trigger this update?

All of the apps are still working, they are just the same versions I had with 7.

That is false. App updates are not automatic for apps that are installed. You have to uninstall/reinstall to get the latest versions.

The guidance for upgrade recommends all apps are uninstalled. I do not see anywhere that states all apps are automatically updated. Can you point me to that guidance?

BTW, the latest apps/updates are only available in the current supported version, #Amahi 9/Fedora 23.

I guess I misunderstood what I was reading. I have been reading about updating different applications. This was the one I read about the auto updates.

Also amahi Plex wiki says that updates will be pushed.

I was after the latest apps which was why I upgraded. Now that I know I need to uninstall and reinstall to get the latest I will. I assume I will need to back up the settings for all those apps so I can get them working again.

Yea amahi-plex is one of the few that may auto-update. It's packaged differently than most apps.
Also amahi Plex wiki says that updates will be pushed.
Updates only apply to the #Amahi version that we update for that application. For example, we don't update plex-media-server App for Fedora 21 or older, only for Fedora 23. So when there are app updates for that OS, we push them automatically for that app. Most apps require an uninstall/reinstall.
I assume I will need to back up the settings for all those apps so I can get them working again.
Yes that would be a best practice.

Hope my explanation makes sense.

Ok good deal. I will get the app specific procedures and hit that up. In regards to the plex, once I reinstall the latest version for fedora 23 it should keep itself up to date after that?

Yes. Anytime we update the plex-media-server App for Fedora 23, it will be automatically pushed to your HDA.
