Hi, just completed an install and it seemed to go OK.

But I've just installed the Amahi Android app on my phone, and I appear to be able to browse my HDA content from outside the home network (e.g. mobile network with wifi turned off), despite not having installed the Amahi Anywhere app on the HDA. I can see that Amahi Anywhere is documented as a pre-requisite, but I didn't read that until afterwards.

This is unexpected - please advise what's happening here.

(NB I've created a new user for forum use, so my forum username is not my hda name in case there is a security issue here).

Amahi Anywhere is installed by default in Amahi 8. This is expected behavior.

We do have an Amahi Anywhere application that was built for Amahi 7. For Amahi 8 it does is provide a way to stop, start, restart the service via the dashboard, Servers section of the Settings Tab.

No need to worry about security, everything is normal.

It would be nice though if docs could be updated to say that Amahi Anywhere install is not required on Amahi 8 (it's not mentioned on Setup > Apps, https://www.amahi.org/apps/amahi-anywhere, or https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... i.anywhere)

This was done in an effort for helping users avoid one extra step and getting things working as close to "out of the box" as possible.

We do discourage double user creation. This confuses things, creates spurious users and provides no extra security (wherever you go, your IP address is recorded remotely in logs no matter what).
