So currently i have my amahi system on a old power spec system that was gifted to me. its specs are as follows
Intel Core 2 Quad Processor
LGA 775. 2.66 ghz
Ram
PC3-8500 DDR3-1066 240pin SDRAM DIMM
mother board
ECS G41T-TM w/ RAID
Ram
DDR3 1066 4gigs witch is maxed out on this board
HDD
Seagate Barracuda EP 3TB 7,200 RPM SATA III 6Gb/s
Seagate 500 Mb
Witch my Mobo only supports 3gp/s transfer speed.
Any how i have a large music selection on my server. Over 65k songs
When i am pulling up my music on a DLNA system it sometimes times out or is real sluggish on moving to the next sone. I am thinking upgrading my Hardware (I.E. Mobo, Processor, and Ram) may help. So the question is AMD or Intel?
has anyone benchmarked them on this?
Was thinking of an i5 or amd equivalent. Any input would be great.
Thank you

Re: Hardware recomindation
It may not be the hardware that you should be focused on. The network card and cabling could be your issue.
Buying a more powerful system will not resolve a network bottleneck or limitation.
I run my HDA virtually with less powerful hardware than you have and no issues with music or movies.

Well my pings look great when pinging the server. And I have ran all cat 6 cables and have gigabit enterprise class switches and a gigabit card
Re: Hardware recomindation
That is great.
Maybe do a little network analysis to ensure that is not your issue. Just a recommendation as I have seen many use less powerful machines with no streaming issues.
You don't need a supercomputer to do have a powerful media server. There are some that have been successful using Raspberry Pi to stream.
There are tools that are free which might assist. I may be sending you on a wild goose chase, but thought it was worth mentioning.
