Anyone running dual NICs/doing link aggregation?

Postby zac851 » Wed Jan 21, 2015 9:48 pm

Just wondering if anyone here was running dual NIC's in their servers? I've got a few old 1Gbps NIC's laying around and was thinking of trying it out and setting up link aggregation.

Amahi is primarily my media server set up to run a few web apps and store Movies, and TV shows but it also serves as my DNS and DHCP server and its been great. I've got a about 14 devices that are connected to it at any given time with no issues.

Anyhow, awhile back I manually installed the SpeedTest Mini app on the my server to see what type of internal network speeds I was getting since I've got a bunch of streaming devices. My internal network is all Gigabit speeds and although I was hoping for around 700Mbps-800Mbps, it's still plenty good and I've never had a bandwidth issue. I'm just wanting to do the Link aggregation/dual nics for fun.

Here is a internal speed test going from a random wired client on the network to my Media Server (Amahi) which is running the Speedtest Mini app. Anyone else ever tested theirs? Just trying to see how it compares to other similar systems.

I get inaccurate results using that app. Using the actual speed test web site works best for me.

Maybe I didn't explain it clearly, but the Speedtest Mini app is testing the speed of my INTERNAL network. My LAN is a 1000Mbps network. That's why it's so high. It was just a test from my local desktop to the internal address of my Amahi server.

I wasn't trying to test my public internet connection but like you said I would use the actual website if I were trying to test that.

I'm interested in link aggregation, what results did you get?
