Newbi

I am a little at sea here. I want to construct a NAS/media server but do not see quite how to start. I think that I need to construct a machine with a couple of 2 TB HDs and install Ubuntu, then install Amahi. Am I correct or is Amahi the OS itself?

Pretty much.
You install the OS first and then Amahi.

A recommendation if you are setting up a multi-drive system is to use a small drive for the OS (even a 40GB drive would work) and then add your big drives for your data.

You should definitely do some reading, particularly on the Wiki: https://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Main_Page

When you first install the system, install only the OS drive. Leave the others disconnected. They are added later.

Good luck!
