I myself run an Atom D525 on a mini itx board (about 2/3 the speed of the S1260), seems to work fine enough. It can't transcode my HD content quick enough to Plex to function, everything else runs as expected. It all sits in a Chenbro ES34069 ITX case with has room for a CD rom, a laptop drive and 4 hot swap bays. My gigabyte motherboard has 4 sata and 1 ide, so I use an IDE laptop drive for OS and 3 large drive for greyhole. Always a spare bay for when I want to upgrade. Only limitation of my board is a 4gb max RAM. I don't know if Amahi would benefit from any more. It has gigabit lan.

The hardware reqs are low for running Amahi. Basically any Pent D/AMD 3000+ 1gb ram and above would work well.

I run my amahi 7 in a proxmox vm with 1 gb ram and 2 cores of an intel e5400 cpu. It runs identical to bare metal.

I also run SME 9, ClearOS 6.5, Zentyal 3.2 and some win servers like sbs 2003 and whs2011 vm's. I don't run them at the same time so they don't collide in function.

I run a gamut of client vm's on Win 8 with vbox 4.3 and hyper-v on another w8 box.

Previous to pmox I had to dual triple boot to play around. The last few years pmox, xen, kvm and vbox fill all my needs and most of this is all free.

Cheers, archetech

Hi!

I plan to build a home NAS on following HW:

http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/J3160DC-ITX/ - it has its own PSU
1x8GB RAM
CoolerMaster Elite 130 case
2x4TB HDD http://www.seagate.com/gb/en/consumer/u ... T4000DM000.

Pros: Relatively cheap, low power consuption, possibility of later adding more discs.

And have following questions:
8GB RAM or 16? Does more RAM mean better performance?
What to boot from? I can boot from cheap SSD but that takes one SATA port and prevents future storage upgrade. (I can use USB to SATA cable later on..)
Can I one HDD now and add second later on to raid 1 without loosing data?

Will the processor etc be fast enough not to slow down the discs? I have Glan router etc...
Will it be able to stream HD video?

Thx for suggestions
