Pay for Amahi/Greyhole?

I am very happy about the Amahi/Greyhole, and think its a great program. I dont like the fact that sometimes i learn something that was critical to know BEFORE i installed Amahi, when i have priceless photos and other stuff on the system. And i did not like several reintalls, mostly my own fault for not understanding how things worked. I am a above average Win and Mac user, but never tried Linux before.

I do not understand how Amahi/Greyhole is made. I am not trying to offend anyone, i just dont know the dynamics of the financing. I understand its some sort of community effort. I have a personal policy to pay for programs i like, and not pay for evil, greedy and bad programs (whs, adobe and many others).

I still feel that Amahi/greyhole is not ready for the general public, and i want to install this for my friends, when i understand it better, and there are no more surprises. My question is: Should i pay and support it to help the development or wait until i feel its more mature, to reward for a more finished product. And lastly where/how to donate? Is there a separate payment to Greyhole and Amahi?

Hi, Thanks for the kind words!

Greyhole is great and is available at: http://www.greyhole.net/
and it has a donate/fund a feature: https://fundry.com/project/17-greyhole

For Amahi, we decided to make the platform open source and also free of charge. Perhaps one day with hardware vendors we can charge some nominal fee to get towards support. People in the community were more open to the idea of a) providing services (free and paid) and b) paying a convenience fee for some apps.

For Amahi we still have our donation page. We got $0 for the t-shirts, mugs and stickers ... but every once in a while we do get some donations. We want to create a donation roster one day when we can sneak it in!

About Greyhole:
I posted something about this on my blog: http://www.pommepause.com/blog/2011/01/ ... r-funding/

Since then, one developer joined, but development is still very slow. We mainly do only bugfixes.
