I have been having problem with a computer in the lan, most of the time it won't connect to the HDA server. I've had various issues with this computer, but checking the logs I see these entries a lot. The log seem to infer that something is wrong. Any ideas?

this is not believed to be an issue. we added it by recommendation from obnox (who is in the samba devel team).
at some point we may add a setting to turn this off.
your issues with that one machine may be different. what is the client? what is the symptom?

It's my wife's windows machine. I did a little more investigating. I forgot she has vpn setup on that computer for work. When I disconnect her vpn, the HDA shares show up. I'm not sure why. Would there be a why that vpn could remain connected and the machine see HDA?

some VPNs, for example the most popular one by Cisco, do redirect all traffic to the corporate network, unless, an option in the configurations (under Modify -> Transport in my cisco mac vpn client), called
Allow Local LAN Access
is enabled. In that case, you may be able to see local traffic, hence the shares, etc.
