HDA like dropbox

Postby gjc1000 » Sun May 23, 2010 5:36 pm

Is there a a way to make my HDA like the DropBox web service? I know, I could just get a DropBox account, but I have this great server at home. I'm looking to sync files between computers on my local network as well as from work. I have all types of OS's.

http://ifolder.com would be a good platform for this, as there's a client for OS X, Windows, and Linux, as well as web-based access. However it currently appears to be only available for SuSe. Though they're both rpm-based packages, it may not be that simple to get it translated, especially with iFolder's dependence on Mono.

I would love it though!! Sadly I'm not a programmer, so I can't contribute the code to get it moved to Fedora.

This application has already made the list via the app suggestion channels. It is on the list to review to see if there is a way to make it work with Fedora. Stay tuned for more on this one.

I've done a lot of searching and installing of various syncing software this past week. None are quite what I am looking for. Although most are easy for me to use and some are better than others, my problem is that getting the family members that could a syncing software will feel it is to hard and long to do. Ifolders sound like the software I need.
Searching on google, I have found a few "how to's" to get it on Fedora, most articles are older though.

If your server has tons of memory and an adequate processor, you may want to consider downloading the iFolder appliance available here and installing it in VirtualBox/VMWare or whatever you use. I will warn you, however, that it may be a lot more difficult to set up networking to the appliance correctly while running in the VM.

Otherwise, try to convince someone to make you a new port ;)

That would be me! Or I'm at least one of the people, anyway. I've used it while having it installed in SuSe, and I'd love to see it on Amahi. It's such an awesome app.

This feature/app is already on the list to be worked. Integrating iFolder in Amahi is not a simple task. We are exploring other options at the moment, however this will take time. We have a large list of feature requests to go through.

We are a very small team of volunteers who support Amahi and are overwhelmed with tasks. While this is a nice feature to have, our top priority right now is integrating Amahi with Fedora 14.

If you would like to help get this application working with Amahi, that would be great. Recommend you document the steps it takes to get it working in the wiki. We can then use that to possibly package the app.

I think SparkleShare will be perfect for Amahi when it's released.
