Moving my Server

Postby Daveee6 » Mon Jul 19, 2010 10:07 am

I set up my Amahi Server at home for the summer on an old computer I had lying around. This fall I will be heading back to school but I want to take the server with me. This means that I will have to set the server up again in my apartment with new information such as IP address, etc. Is this possible? What will I have to do to go about changing the settings of my server? Will it be as simple as typing in my new information? Thanks for all of your help!

You can't change the IP address of your server without reinstalling.
You can change the gateway address ("hda-change-gw" command in a Terminal), but not the HDA IP address, or domain name.
To do so, you'd have to create a new profile, and re-install using the new install code.
If you really want to keep your HDA as-is, it's probably much easier to setup your own router in your dorm room, and have it setup like your home network.

This is definitely a newbie question. I will be in my own apartment with a new router. If I were to keep the same router that I used at my house would I not have to change any of the settings? Also, if I were to change my router would it be easy enough to keep my settings?

Using the same router should work without any modification.
If you have a new router, it's fairly easy to change it's internal address to match the gateway address you used before, if it's not already the same.
