Fedora 14 Issue - Any help appreciated

Postby Ianb » Mon Apr 28, 2014 2:53 pm

Hello

I've been running Amahi on Fedora 14 for three or four years now with no problems. Today our self hosted wordpress site stopped responding, so I tried to log onto the local machine and could not.

As a last resort I cycled the power. The Amahi server is up and running again, as are all its services, shares and the website, but when I try to log into the Fedora front end I just get a dialogue box saying "There is a problem with the configuration server. (/usr/libexec/gconf-sanity-check-2 exited with status 256). I click close on the dialogue box but nothing else happens.

I am not an experienced Linux user, and although I have googled the error, I still have no idea where to go from here as I cannot get to a desktop or a command prompt. I always check the integrity of the RAID 0 (software) drives after a reboot, and not being able to do this worries me a little.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Is it worthwhile considering rebuilding the machine using Ubuntu? Will I be able to preserve all the data on the 2 x 2TB (Raid) drives if I do this?

The current Amahi system information is:

System 2.6.35.6-45.fc14.x86_64 , x86_64

Platform 6.1.0-1

Core 4.1.5-1

I look forward to any assistance any of you can offer/

Regards

Ian

I would recommend you rebuild the machine with Amahi 7 on Fedora 19. Fedora 14 has been end of life for years and vulnerable to security issues.

Ubuntu is not officially supported, therefore I would not recommend going to that version. Amahi 7 is a much faster and improved platform over the previous Amahi versions.

BTW, you can easily migrate the Greyhole data. I have done it several times myself. You will find guidance in the wiki.

Thank you, Once again, bigfoot.

I'll create a window when I have some time in the near future and rebuild!

Now to find that wiki.....

Not a problem.

Recommend you back up data for any apps you have installed as well. Might consider checking to see if the same apps are available in Amahi 7. There are many, but some of the older ones from Fedora 14 are not.

There is wiki guidance that should help with the entire endeavor as follows:
https://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Migrate_Amahi_Data

and although this is for Ubuntu, the concept the same for Fedora 19
