There was some optimization done using memcache. It was a feature of the forums software that cpg just did

In a security review, we noticed we had some simple accelerations going only. Now we added memcached and also some compression.
No CDN. Yet. Let's let this simmer and make sure it's working well. CDN is supported more easily (without hacking the code) in the next version of PHPBB. We will try it then.
