Send HDA Traffic Through a VPN to Outside Network

Postby bukco13 » Sat Jan 12, 2013 7:36 pm

I just got Amahi set up for my home network for the first time and just starting to play around with it to learn how it all works. I currently live in China and already have purchased a VPN service (Astrill) to allow me to use outside networks to connect to sites that are usually blocked (Facebook, Netflix, etc.). What I would like to try and do is see if there is such a way to setup Amahi so that it can send all the traffic in the network through this VPN. Specifically I'd want to make it so that my Apple TV2 can do this so I can connect to my Netflix account.

My setup is a modem connected to an Airport express which has a DHCP range of two IPs that sends traffic through the HDA (an old MacBook Pro with Ubuntu installed). I also have an Apple Time Capsule that extends the other airports network (the HDA assigns it a static IP) to which the Apple TV is wired directly with Ethernet.

I installed the Astrill client on the computer with the HDA (Linux version) and used the Open VPN protocol which should send all traffic through the VPN, but that didn't seem to work. Any help is much appreciated!

Yeah, I set that up no problem already. I needed to do that to have Amahi work properly at all so now it handles all the DHCP leases etc. What I'd like to try and do is send the Internet traffic that's going through the server through my VPN first. There are ways to set this up with routers, though unfortunately not the ones I have. Astrill has information on their site about using it with DD-WRT routers here: https://www.astrill.com/dd-wrt.php just wasn't sure if there was a compatible solution with an Astrill server.
