One of my data drives failed
One of my data drives failed
I am using greyhole and essentially have two copies of everything. Today I came home and could not access my server even via ping or ssh. I tried restarting it a few times and am getting an error "can't mount root file system, sleeping forever". One of the error messages I saw showed the serial number of the failed drive. I tried disconnecting the bad drive and it still will not boot. It is not the system drive. What is next?
Re: One of my data drives failed
Hello,
If one of your data drives has failed, then you need to remove it from /etc/fstab. It will require you boot your HDA via a LiveCD and edit the /etc/fstab on the OS drive. Once you remove that drive from the file, it should boot.
If you need assistance, the internet should have some tutorials on how to do this process.

Re: One of my data drives failed
Hi, Thanks for the info.
I have since found out that the bad drive contains my system partition and a 1.7 tb partition used for greyhole. That bad blocks are located on the greyhole partition.
My question is, can I copy as much of the data off of the 1.7 tb partition gh directory to the gh directories on the other drives through a live CD and have greyhole know about these files when I get the system booting again with a replacement drive?

Re: One of my data drives failed
You could do that or just copy them to a temp folder on one of the drives. Then move them back to the correct shares once you have the HDA up and running again.
I am always leery messing with the Greyhole folders.
