Setting up WebVNC on your HDA

Postby gmw » Wed Mar 11, 2009 11:07 am

WebVNC is "one-click" installable on your HDA.
Simply got to the applications tab at http://setup and install WebVNC
To enable webVNC go to your HDA's desktop and follow the instructions to "Turn on Desktop Sharing" at http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/WebVNC

very cool gimmick...

tho I'm more like cpg I guess... X fulfills all my needs for graphical stuff (I just ssh into my box and run an app on the display where I'm sitting at that time, it's much more convenient :ugeek: ) the rest is cli anyway...

OK, I'm hoping that my small issue will be really easy to solve. System > Preferences > Internet and Network > Remote Desktop does not exist. How can I add this so I can configure my settings or assess same from CLI?

Many thanks.

For anyone with a similar problem the solution is utterly simple:

Code: Select all

yum install vino

Right click on your top bar (where Applications - Places - System is) then click edit menus.

Then go down to System > Preferences > Internet and Network and make sure Remote Desktop is checked.

Within this you can add new programs to it, or take away items that you do not need.

Brandon, that will not work until vino is installed.

Once I installed vino the menu item was available as expected. Before it was not present in System > Preferences > Internet and Network nor in Main Menu to add or remove...the resolution is to install the vino package.

Vino comes with Fedora/Gnome.

Unless you removed it, or got a bad iso, it will be there.

Hello,

Have you checked out http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/WebVNC in the wiki? Is your HDA the sole DNS server for your network?

There are a few things that might cause this issue. If the wiki does not help, please let us know.
