Feng office won;t start from one PC

Postby toothandnail » Sat Jul 31, 2010 7:47 am

I recently install Amahi (using the express CD) for a small business. The install was flawless, and I've had no problems installing appications. I have hit one strange problem though.

The system has an SME server as a gateway/mail server. As a result, I have not been able to use the DHCP/DNs services from Amahi - the SME server is providing those. To get round problems with access to applications, I've used the SME hostname setting to create links for installed applications. All of them work for me with my laptop connected to the local network (wireless and using DHCP from the SME server). From the PC which is always in the network, all of them except Feng Office work. I checked the host setup, which esentially provides an alias for foffice to the IP of the Amahi machine. No joy, yet it does work fine from my laptop. The only difference I can see is that the other PC is on a static IP, while the lapop is on a dynamic. But that doesn't make much sense either, since it is only one out of half a dozen apps that won't work from the PC.

Anyone got any suggestions as to what could be the cause of the problem, or how to trouble shoot it?

Paul.

One alternative would be to use the web-apps proxy app possibly. Anytime you add more layers of complexity to Amahi, it often does not behave as one would like.

Well, I've just hit a variation of the same thing, which I really don't understand.

My own Amahi server has been up for a couple of days now (after a break of 2 months or so). I've turned off DHCP in the router and I've also entered the Amahi server IP as the DNS server in the router settings. Most of the time, it has been working. However, sometimes (its doing this right now), it I enter 'http/hda', instead of loading the dashboard, I get an OpenDNS search page, or sometimes another web site. I can get to the dashboard by using the IP, but I have no idea why it has suddenly stopped resolving the local address for the HDA.

The really interesting things is, when I get to the dashboard using the the IP, all my installed applications (WebEARP, phpMAN, phplogcon, phpsysinfo and bookmarks all load. Feng office doesn't. So I think there is something odd in the way it is being called. At the moment, I can't get to Feng Office at all. Instead, I get the same OpenDns search bar, with this entered in the search bar:

Code: Select all

foffice/index.php?c=access&a=login
:) I'd like to fix the problem with Feng Office, but I'm even more interested in knowing why I'm seeing this partial failure in Amahi local name resolution.

I've also just hit a problem mounting problem. Attempting to mount one of the standard HDA shares (which I could mount earlier in the evening without problems), I'm now getting timeouts and no connects. I've restarted the Amahi box and the problem has not cleared.....

:( Sorry to be slow - haven't had a chance to get over there for a bit.

I've now added the web-apps proxy. Unfortunately, it doesn't help. Feng Office will still not run on that machine. I wondered whther it might be something to do with DHCP as opposed to static IPs, but putting that machine on a dynamic IP has not helped either.

It seems very strange that it is (so far at least) only that one app that will not run, and only (also so far) from that one machine. I really don't understand why it runs fine from my laptop when I'm over there, but will not run from the desktop, even though all the other apps run.

The only other oddity I've noticed is on that machine, the Amahi dashboard has to be called by IP. using 'http://hda' loads 'http://www.hda.com", which is a commercail web site. At the same time, which I have my laptop connected, I can open the Amahi dashboard using 'http://hda'. Very strange....

It sounds like maybe you have a problem with your DNS configuration, perhaps on your client(s).

Have you looked at the Networking Troubleshooter on the wiki?
