PHPBB upgrade issues

I have a PHPBB2 forum that I want to upgrade to PHPBB3. This normally involves installing the new version and then running a database conversion script. When I tried this on my webhost I get a timeout error. I have a support ticket open with them but they don't seem to be making much progress.

So I tried installing PHPBB3 on my Amahi 5 box. It installed perfectly, so I downloaded my database and imported it to MySQL on the Amahi box. Had to tweak the max file and max timeout to get it to go, but I now have a phpbb2 and phpbb3 database in MySQL. I also have the old forum files in /home/phpbb_moved/ on the Amahi box.

Here's the problem. When I try to navigate to the PHPBB3 install directory from my browser it should open a page with the conversion script ( this part works on on webhost) on my browser I just get the php script in plain text. it dosn't show up as a web page.

Why dosn't it run the php script as it does for PHPBB3?

On a somewhat related note. when I navigate to the old forum (PHPBB2) and try to open it, I get a MySQL acces denied error. I modified the configp.php to point to the correct DB (it was trying to got to my webhost), username and password, which I got from the local MySQL DB. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the password, but it won't let me not have a password on the DB. Is the encryption method the same? I cut and pasted from the DB to the config.php, that should work, right?

Well, there could be many things going on here. Suggest you try a different browser or purge the browser cache. That may help.

I am not sure I adequately understand the problem. Is it phpBB 2 or 3 that you are having the issue with? Can you check the log files to see if there is anything there that might help?
