Home Inventory
Home Inventory
I found an app on sourceforge called Home Inventory but I'm having trouble getting it to work correctly. Has anyone successfully installed this?
Re: Home Inventory
i see you got it going as a one-click app!
that was fast! nice going!

Re: Home Inventory
You're too much CPG!
Thanks for your help getting that installed. I started inputing items and I think the application is very useful and a good addition to Amahi. One feature that I wish it had was a button that would backup the database. Clearly it can be done using mysqldump or phpMyAdmin because one basic reason to put together a home inventory it to know what's in your home in the case of emergency such as a flood or fire. So an offsite copy of data and the program are necessary.
Other that one missing feature I like it.

Re: Home Inventory
hmm maybe write a script that basically does a MySQL gzipped dump and lets you download/mail it. The database shouldn't be more than a few hundred K anyway (unless you can post pictures in it, but I haven't looked at it yet).

Re: Home Inventory
two things:
- app released publicly! yay! http://www.amahi.org/apps/home-inventory
- good idea. could someone take a minute to file a feature request to request that for apps that have a database we create a link that automatically "zips up" the db and sends it to the browser for the user to save? (this would be best in the installed app area) or other idea, like somehow
we just rolled out the necessary changes in the app contributors area in amahi.org to indicate the corresponding db for an app!
so, after the corresponding matching code in the platform is released (today or tomorrow), the platform will know which app has a db and the name and the user, hence we can automate later the backup and recovery of dbs.
i really like this idea!!
it will also help in app updates!!

Re: Home Inventory
Automating to that extent would certainly be nice but I may have found a solution at least for now. It's phpmybackup . I've got it installed and so far it looks promising. You can backup using ftp and can email the backup. You can set certain databases and can automate the schedule so while it requires a little configuration on the front it will do what I need it to do.
The one problem I'm having is that for security reasons they suggest putting a global configuration file outside the root where it isn't public. Leaving everything under the html directory I can get it to work but so far I'm having some sort of permission issue with the file moved. Is there a spot inside the HDA folder that might work?
I'd be happy to set this up as a one click app but I might need some help with the scripting.
