Desktop Settings not in System/Preferences

Postby OCPANet » Fri Mar 20, 2009 11:15 am

Hello,

I think the idea of the WebVNC is very cool. Really easy way to manage the HDA. My problem is that I installed the app using the new one-click method and it shows installed. I went to the System/Preferences/Internet and Network menu but there is no option to adjust remote desktop settings. Ideas? Something I've missed?

Thanks

BM

There is a problem on the documentation here ... should say (like in the picture)

System/Preferences/Internet and Network/Remote Desktop

Yes Sir, you are correct. If that was for me, I did discover that and there is no menu entry for Remote Desktop in Internet and Network. Any other ideas?

Yes -- you have me befuddled. It could be that you have to install the VNC server package (though I am not 100% sure this is the solution).
I have the VNC package installed since I followed the wiki page http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/VNC

To install the vnc package follow the instructions under the "server" heading on the wiki page.

*Edit - I just realized this is an older post, but maybe it helps another linux noob as myself.

I am not sure if this applies or not, but having recently RE-Setup my HDA I noticed several errors from my previous set-up. One of them being not finding the option that you are speaking of.

I think the reason that I had not seen this option is related to the following:
1. I did not set-up using the recommended kernel Fedora 9 i386. I used a different set-up, which I ended up using KDE instead of gnome. Therefore the options were not exactly as what the instructions guided.

2. I had allowed for all updates, instead of only HDA updates. What this ended up doing "upgrading" my desktop options / programs several times, and that option may have changed the networking GUI.

Just thoughts which may or may not apply to your particular case, but for what it's worth hope it helps.
