my roadmap view..

Postby Lincee » Sat Oct 31, 2009 5:46 pm

OK, since there's a roadmap post somewhere in this forum, let me try to give my views, as both SOHO and n00b user.

Version 5:
Stability - iron out the bugs.
Performance - optimize the code for better performance (is that possible?).
Security - completely lock down the setup tabs for ordinairy users.
Mail - build in a basic mailserver, in this time, even home users have domains with mail accounts.
Backup - provide some rudimentary backup routine for users to safeguard data.

Version 6:
Dashboard - make the dashboard more web 2.0, with widgets and a per user interface.
Layout - have a common layout for apps, as well as management platform.
LDAP - Better integration with LDAP services for windows users (Active Domain)
Modules - Devide the core into modules, (SOHO, Media, ...)

Also, what i personally think is missing, is some form of development structure.
who's doing what?
What we need are programmers who work on the core, and coders who can create scripts, like a basic mail client, calandar client, whatever.
once we establish a few parameters that set the base for layout and such, Amahi's dashboard, and apps, can be integrated into an intranet that is just as powerfull as most modern office solutions!

Personally, i'm gonna try and find some basic mail client, to try and adapt to amahi.
i'm also gonna try and work on an LDAP solution, to bring Amahi up to windows2008 LANMAN.
LANTEA: Amahi 7 (vm), HP Proliant Microserver, 8GB RAM, 2x 1TB HDD, 1GB eth

mail client?

you mean web based? or ...?
what bigfoot65 has done is a fairly robust mail setup.

ldap: here is a question - do we need our own schema (if so, how are we going to do it), and if not, which schema should be used?

We have SquirrelMail for the client and we have it set up with https.

Start with the 'standard' schemas for person and such. Look at the smbldap url I sent along. Install it on some image and see what you have.

Then I will also look into SIP ldap schema, say from Asterisk. See what it adds.

Doing W2K domain services is CHALLENGING to say the least. I believe it is now working, but to what extent do we need to go down that road as compared with what is needed for PDC/BDC environment?
