Alpha 2 of Amahi on Fedora 16

Postby cpg » Sun Nov 20, 2011 7:22 pm

Hello!

We're happy to announce the Alpha 2 release Amahi on Fedora 16.

This release should install out of the box just adding the f16.amahi.org repo while installing.

This release is x86, 32-bits only, has some things not working, etc. (check out the working page in the wiki for details).

If you would like to help, here are the things that need to be tested
  • Brand new, fully up to date Greyhole
  • Whole Amahi dashboard
  • All apps are untested. If you are the packager for one app, please test it and report
Thanks to bigfoot65, mmornati, megabitdragon, pjcrux and everyone else who helped with testing so far!!

great news guys.

one question. Will the load on the system increase by updating to the F16 version?

I have a pretty eco-kinda setup...so increased load would be bad for my system...

I'd love to test...is there any danger in loosing data?

Yes, there is danger of losing data. It's not for production.

There should not be any load increase, though we do not have a lot of the tuning in place, so it could go up now.

The pieces are not in place yet to allow others to test apps. Only the app owners can do so at this time. When we reach that point, we will be asking for assistance.

We fixed and released two bugs today. Thanks to Marco for the detective debug work!

One fix should make the DHCP subsystem work out of the box and the other should make app installation work!

Thanks Marco!

cpg,
do we have to do a complete reinstallation of F16? or just install the new RPM's?

Will test some apps tonight!

Cheers!

I think updating the RPMs is enough at the moment for these fixes.

Just pushed another fix for app installation, which should work now.
(again, 32 bits only)

DHCP should also work now!

Hi, all.
Thanks for the development, looking forward to the new upgraded version in production mode :-)

Are planning to install a couple of a new Amahi systems for me and my neighbour.
However we have 64-bits systems, and not able to test the new version...

Therefore; two questions for u:
1. Is there, and if so, when, is it planned to have a 64-bit system ready for testing?
2. When is it realistic to have the new version ready for production on Fedora 16?

Cheers

Yes there will be a 64-bit version of Amahi. As for when it will be ready, anticipate from a few weeks to a month.
