Re: home.com

at the risk of starting a religious arguement..... It would be much simpler to not use a real TLD in your setup. If you use something like <yourdomain>.local you are far less likely to encounter any DNS conflicts and will make troubleshooting much easier. Just a friendly tip from a Networking Profes...

Re: Changing Amahi's DNS

i find OpenDNS to be unreliable at times. I have less issues with GoogleDNS

also.....i find using webmin to change DNS to be far simpler. i can also edit DHCP to give alternate DNS servers.

I have DHCP set to give:

192.168.1.5 HDA
192.168.1.1 router - uses ISP DNS
8.8.8.8 Google
8.8.4.4 Google

Re: Xen or VMWare machines and Amahi

I use VMWare and connect my drives as physical disks. The exception to this is the OS install drive, swap and Greyhole Landing Zone. I use a 200GB virtual disk for that (500MB Boot, 8GB SWAP, 20GB Root, 10GB Home and the rest to /var/hda/files).

The rest of my drives are connected as physical drives.

Re: Amanhi Sync

The problem is outside my home network. My wife is a teacher. She has dropbox installed on her PC at work. It syncs with her files at home. I am looking for that sort of synchronization. The problem is the PC at her school. Not sure how i get her files there. Telling her she has to go to a weblink t...

Amanhi Sync

I would like to stop paying dropbox and expand my current Amahi membership. In order to do that, i need an easy way for my wife to get he files that are on Dropbox.

Anyone know of a client currently or in the works for Windows machines to sync selected folders in Amahi sync?

MythTV

So i have had a very difficult run the last few weeks. Hardware issues, then more as i try to resolve the first ones.... Bottom line is that it would be great if i could consolidate my Amahi server and MythTV backend. I know they are working on this from a Amahi Apps view but... What issues can i ex...

Re: What are my options ?

Personally, using greyhole provides more than adequate data security. I think recovery of data is better in this case. I would have a minimum of 3 drives in any HDA i build in the future. One for the main install and landing area, and 2 for storage and pooling. I think the next HDA i build will be a...

Re: AmahiSync Questions

I see. I think doing read-only client could be doable in a reasonable time (if there were sufficient interest). I dont really want to create VPNs to my home network from them. Clarify that one for me please. (Did someone change my coffee into decaf today??) With DropBox, i install it on my machine ...

Re: AmahiSync Questions

Re: windows client: It's a good idea and I'd like to see it one day, though basically all interactions you do with Amahi sync are from clients, so I am not sure I get this one completely. I use Dropbox to share files with machines at work. I dont really want to create VPNs to my home network from t...
